Idaho: Burn Injury Basics

Burn Injury Lawyers

Burns can be characterized as first degree, second degree, or third degree depending upon their severity. While first degree burns are much less serious and often heal quickly with no lasting negative effects, third degree burns result in severe damage to the skin and considerable scarring is inevitable. The following discusses the types of injuries Idaho burn victims may experience.

  • First degree burns : First degree burn injuries are the least serious type of burn and only the first layer of skin is burned. First degree burns are characterized by reddened skin that will heal in approximately one week and may peel. These burns can cause pain and swelling of the epidermis. The skin is red, sensitive to the touch, and blotchy when lightly pressed. A sunburn is an example of a first degree burn.

  • Second degree burns: Second degree burn injuries are more serious than first degree burns and occur when the first and second layer of skin is burned. Second degree burns are characterized by moist-looking skin and blisters, as well as  redness, pain, and swelling. Hair follicles and sweat glands can be affected by second degree burns as well. If a second degree burn isn't treated correctly, it can turn into a third degree burn as swelling increases and blood flow worsens.

  • Third degree burns: Third degree burns injuries are the most serious kind of burn.  All layers of the skin are burned and the underlying tissue are damaged. Third degree burns are characterized by a white or black dry wound as the skin becomes charred or translucent. Coagulated blood vessels will appear under the surface. Areas of the body affected by third degree burns are usually numb. Third degree burns take a long time to heal because of the destruction of tissue, and permanent scarring results.

If you have suffered a serious burn due to negligence of another person, a Idaho burn injury attorney can help you get the justice you deserve.
