Idaho: Defining a Bite

There are certain dogs, some even recognized by Idaho dog bite laws, that are more likely to bite than others. A dog can be considered dangerous by its actions, the actions of its owner or its breed. Pitbulls and rottweilers are often viewed as the most dangerous dogs. While some may not be vicious, these two breeds combined commit 65% of attacks on humans and 79% of rampage attacks. They are often found most likely to commit a second and third bite. Studies show that small dogs are less likely to be involved in rampage attacks. These attacks are when an animal attacks more than one person or animal during the same incident. One study showed that no dog small than a boxer was involved in a rampage attack, most likely because tiny dogs can be restrained more easily. In life-threatening or fatal dog attacks, pitbulls committed 45% of the attacks, while rottweilers committed 22%.
