Idaho: Admiralty Maritime Law
After paying the cost of a vacation aboard a cruise ship, the passenger receives a cruise ship ticket, which acts as a contract with the cruise line. Unfortunately, this ticket can severely restrict the passenger’s rights and provide conditions that benefit the cruise line. It is important to read the back of your ticket before boarding any cruise vessel.
A possible condition on the back of the ticket may be that a passenger must inform the cruise line in writing of an injury within six months. If the injured passenger does not contact the cruise line within this time period, they may lose the right to file a claim.
The ticket may also state that passengers injured on board Idaho cruise ships must file a claim in a particular state. For instance, if the cruise line is based out of Florida, the passenger may have to file a claim there even if they live in Connecticut and sailed out of New York.
Other conditions that may be applied by cruise lines include:
- Conditions regarding lost or damaged luggage
- Conditions allowing deviation from the planned itinerary
- Disclaimer for shore excursions
If you have been injured in a cruise ship accident in Idaho, it is important to contact an attorney immediately to help get the compensation you deserve.
